In 2022, amidst the whirlwind of moving and starting our life together, the idea of Kelowna first entered our conversations. We were hunting for a city that felt like “us”—a place that offered beauty, adventure, and the promise of a fresh start. Kelowna stood out immediately, renowned for its breathtaking landscapes, thriving wine culture, and warm, sunny climate. Nestled in the Okanagan Valley, it promised everything we dreamed of in a home and more.
Fast forward to Valentine’s Day 2023. I had no idea that Blake had something extraordinary planned. He surprised me with a trip to Kelowna, which had been on our minds since that initial conversation. The journey there was unforgettable, with scenic mountain roads that were as thrilling as they were nerve-wracking. The views along the way were worth every twist and turn, with snow-dusted peaks giving way to glimpses of the Okanagan Lake shimmering in the distance.
We stayed at the Royal Kelowna by Bellstar, a hotel that perfectly captured the city’s elegance and charm. Our 3 bedroom suite overlooked the water, offering stunning views of the city as it hugged the shores of the lake. Those quiet moments, gazing out at the serene expanse, felt magical—like Kelowna welcomed us into its embrace.
The city itself exceeded all our expectations. From the bustling charm of its vibrant downtown to the delightful meals we enjoyed at its inviting restaurants, Kelowna radiated a warmth and energy that felt so welcoming.
Then came the most unforgettable part of the trip. Blake, ever the romantic, chose that perfect moment to propose against the backdrop of the place we’d dreamed about together. He asked Tracy to marry him. It was a scene straight out of a movie—pure magic.
Although Kelowna captured our hearts as the perfect vacation destination, with its breathtaking views and tranquil atmosphere, we’re glad we decided to settle in Calgary. Kelowna offered beauty and charm, but it didn’t quite have the sense of home we were searching for. Calgary, with its dynamic energy, vibrant community, and opportunities, turned out to be the place where we could genuinely build our life together.
Looking back, Kelowna was the ideal setting for a magical getaway, but we’ve found our roots in Calgary. Kelowna will always hold a special place in our hearts for its beauty and charm and the memories we created there.
